Alien Invasion

I'm sure I can't be the only one with far too many UFOs. Never mind hiding them behind the sofa, I think I'll evict them and take refuge down there myself. They make me feel guilty when I stumble across them looking all forlorn languishing in a cupboard, pushed aside for nicer patterns, prettier yarns or the latest craze. None more so than this braided cable cardigan from Verena Herbst 2006. I started this with so much enthusiasm in December, but it got sidelined by a more pressing project and by the time that was done I'd signed myself up to the Sweater-a Month KAL and got carried away by that.

It was only when I came back from holiday too tired to think and convinced that I had nothing I wanted to knit and nothing to knit it with, that I turned in desperation to some old projects. I am so glad I picked this up again. I wasn't in a thrilling yarn, just some black aran weight acrylic from my stash, but it's just what I need. I've wanted a long black cardigan for ages and this is just right. And to top it off, it counts as the other half to this month's sweater total.I still need to add some form of fastening. The single hook and eye suggested doesn't seem enough, so I'm thinking about 8" of hook and eye tape from the chest down will be better suited to my needs.I'm thinking of crocheting an edging around the bottom too as it looks a little untidy to me, but as I could wear it in public I'm claiming it as finished. I may even come out from the sofa.

No need to hide under the sofa, that sweater is gorgeous! It's truly a treat to pop in each month and see what sweater you've knit up. I'd have to sign up for the sweater a year KAL, I'm so slow!!

Very nice!

If I lose interest in a project I just rip it out. This means of course that I have no UFOs. Sneaky hey? ;-)

December 2006? That's not a UFO, it's a recent start, lol!

It looks super!

Great sweater! I'm glad you finished it. I think I'm on the sweater every two months (or so) track, myself.

This is great, Rain, the perfect black sweater, and another sweater for your list of 12! :0)

Wow, Rain, that sweater is fantabulous! You inspired me to search for the pattern online but alas, I'm fruitless. I did notice that they are in German... is yours? (They must translate them, right?) Any info regarding issue number so that I might find this pattern? Again, lovely, fantabulous sweater. Now back to my regularly scheduled-and-ignored UFOs.

I love that sweater!! I'm interested to see what you end up using for fastening though!

That's a great sweater. I had to buy one similar to that. And way to go getting one of those UFOs out into the world.

That is a beauty! You are doing well on your sweater a month. Do baby sweaters count? I just finished my second Elizabeth Zimmermann simple baby sweater! Quick easy knit and EZ's patterns always bring such rave reviews!

Awesome sweater! I see all the sweaters everyone makes and that makes me want to knit one for myself...only problem is it takes me ages and ages to knit something big. I've knit baby/children's sweaters no problem - adult size is a different story though. One of these days I'm really going to have to just sit down and make one for myself!

its a keeper! what great big sweater to keep you cosy!
I was thinking a belt- also in cable, double knitting, but thinner yarn if you have.

Gorgeous! It didn't linger for too terribly long. Don't feel bad. It looks to be well worth the wait! And the color certainly makes it a warddrobe staple for years to come! Beautiful!

It looks fantastic! I love the pattern, it looks long which appeals to me, covers all the lumpy bits!
Definitely worth the wait!

This sweater a month KAL is really making you whip your WIPs into shape isn't it? I love it. I don't dig it in that light color the model pic has, but the black makes it much more desireable!

That is a great sweater. the fastening idea sounds good too.

Certainly should be classed as a baby UFO if it was only started in December! Worth finishing though - very cosy looking and I like hpny's idea of a belt to go with it (but then I'm a belted cardi girl!) Don't hide this FO!

Love that sweater! It looks so cozy. I'm trying SO hard to tame the UFO's. I keep telling myself that a little vacation from them will make me love them more when I stumble upon them again. (that's what I tell myself anyway)

I don't think that can really count as a UFO either. . it wasn't a year since you started it!!

It looks really fab! Way to go!

Thanks folks!

Jeanne - you asked about the pattern, the magazine is just in German with no translations. It was Verena Herbst 06 numbered 3/06
