The sweater that almost was

So much for me finishing my two cardigans this month. After the breakneck pace of last month I decided to finish the vest I started for Scarlett while I was visiting. I just needed a bit of mindless stocking stitch that I could lose myself in for a few days. It's actually the Argyle Slipover from Debbie Bliss's Special Knits. I'd taken the book with the Eyelet Vest in mind but Jenny preferred this one instead. I only had the main colour with me (DB Baby Cashmerino kindly given to me by the fabulous Nanatoo) so I started with the intention of duplicate stitching the diamonds on later, I'm going to use the deeper pink and white only my LYS don't have any of the deeper pink in at the moment. I made the biggest size which won't fit her for ages anyway so I'm in no hurry.

While I was doing that I had an idea for a sweater that just couldn't wait. All my other plans went straight out the window and I got to work with the Patons Crystal that I showed you in the last post. Unfortunately, as it's something I was designing myself I could only guess at my yarn requirements and have run out just before the end.

It's supposed to have a yoke worked in the lace pattern, these wee hearts, but I'm a ball short. I've been considering my options and can't decide if I should make the sleeves shorter - they're 3/4 length to start with, or if I should frog the body. I could easily go down a size as there's plenty of ease in it as it is, but at the moment I just can't face it. The thought of doing the hem again doesn't appeal to me. My LYSO has been a superstar trying to get more but can't get hold of any. If any of you see it on your travels, please can you let me know.

As for the two cardigans that were part of the SAMKAL, they've been postponed until May unless I can fit them in before. Tomorrow I'll be casting on for Glampyre's Simple Knitted Bodice and the month after I have a gorgeous cardigan calling to me. Maybe next month will be a little more successful.

Dear little vest :) I'm looking forward to DB cash aran for SKB as it's so soft and lovely.
Rain, that jumper you've designed is really nice - I want one! I hope you don't have to wait too long to find some yarn. 3/4 sleeves are perfect and I wouldn't frog yet in case some turns up.

I am loving the lace on that sweater. It's just scrumptious. I hope you either find more yarn or the strength to frog. . .

I love your sweater! its great how the lace is part of the shaping! lovely. if you can't find more yarn, I will not frog body or sleeves (I love 3/4) but finish the top in another fiber/ color. it will be gorgeous. like kid silk haze, or something.

I love the red jumper you've designed and can't bear the thought of you having to frog it. I hope another ball turns up soon.

The baby knits are adorable!

That's the sweetest little vest, love the colours you're using. Your jumper in Crystal looks verrry nice indeed, I hope you can track some down. I'll ask in our LYS just in case they have some lurking.

Oh that little vest is adorable! Makes me wanna knit one for Tater. :)

The red number is beautiful, Rain! Love the hearts. Maybe your yarn pixies will be nice yet again and another ball will turn up. :)

Know what you mean about quick stocking stitch knits - I was going out the other day and was aghast to find I'd nothing that could be knitted in the dark! (I took something that should be concentrated on but that's another story!)
How frustrating about your sweater - it's looking beautiful too. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the yarn...

Your sweater is lovely. Could you do the lace in a contrasting yarn? Pink and brown are always nice together...

I love the sweater! Are you planning to post the pattern (or at least a general idea of what you're doing)?

The little baby vest is great. What a shame about running out of yarn, I hope you find some, I will keep my eyes open too. The sweater looks lovely.

I too love your sweater, shame you can't get any more yarn. I would hate to have to frog it all though so I think I would go for the 3/4 sleeves :(

Aw, those little hearts are so sweet! Hope you find some more of that yarn soon.

Oh no, don't frog! It's too pretty to die! I'll be on the lookout for the yarn, hope it turns up soon!

The baby vest is so sweet!

I love the little baby vest, so cute... The sweater you've designed is absolutly fabulous, what a pig about running out of yarn, I'll keep my eyes out for you, but if you don't have any joy, I'd do the lace part in a contrast colour, rather than frog all that lovely work

Oh, what a shame about running out of yarn! The sweater is really beautiful. I say give yourself some time to be frustrated and cool off and one day you'll find yourself either with the needed extra yarn or with the motivation to start over.

The baby sweater is the cutest! The color scheme for the diamonds sounds like it'll look great.

What a lovely little baby vest, that is going to look gorgeous.

I am totally in love with your heart jumper, I have all my needles crossed that you will find the right yarn, as the sleeve length looks perfect. Good luck!

The vest is really cute. As for the sweater, if I were you I'd tink a round, bind it off as is, and wear it off the shoulder. But I'm lazy and live in a warm climate.

I love the little baby vest. :) I searched the internet and ebay for that Crystal yarn with no luck.:( Maybe you could do the top part in the brown that you had purchased?

I made the argyle cardi for my baby when I was pregnant and just recently finished the eyelet top. I *love* the eyelet pattern. The argyle was cute but required some blocking. Ick.

I love that sweater. I hope you find the yarn to finish it, it's so pretty!

Your jumper is so lovely Rain - don`t frog yet, something will turn up or you will suddenly get the inspiration on how to finish it

You CAN'T frog it, its beautiful!
You are sooo talented!
Love the baby vest too, its so cute!

Sigh... How irritating! I'll cross my fingers for the missing ball, but if you have to frog, remember: most of the pain is in the anticipation of the frogging. Once it's all unravelled, you'll feel much better. Bitter, but better.

Love the color of the top your designing. Hopefully an odd ball will turn up before you have to frog. As another poster mentioned, an off the shoulder look would be very pretty too. Good luck with that project!

Oh such a shame about running out of yarn, that sweater is gorgeous, I'd have a look in my LYS but it's crap at stocking anything!
Hope you get something soon.

The little baby sweater is cute too.

What a cute little vest. I can't wait to see it with the argyle pattern.

I hope you find more yarn for your sweater otherwise you're going to have very short sleeves or a flashdance neckline.

Ugh, that is the worst part of designing your own stuff...you never truly know how much yarn it will take until you're done! But regardless, it's quite lovely! I love the details you included!

I have missed your own designs! This is a beauty! You are so amazing at designing.

That jumper is a beautiful design. I think it would probably look nice with shorter sleeves if you decide to shorten the sleeves to get the extra yarn you need.

That sweater is gorgeous - I really hope you find some more yarn for it. Please don't frog it!

That sweater is gorgeous!! I love the details and would hate for you to rip it. Go for the shorter sleeves. :)
