Tee Hee
I was conned into buying Simply Knitting recently by a very misleading picture on the cover of a pattern I wanted to make, only to find it wasn't in the magazine, but only an advert for a kit. Damn plastic wrapping. As a small consolation there was a voucher inside for the Bumper Book of Knitting, which I then got for half price. While it's not the world's most amazing knitting book there are a few things in there that I wanted so it was worth it. Not to mention that it includes Alan Dart's Christmas Gnomes.
I'm not really a gnome fan, you know the tacky ugly little pottery or plastic fellows that people put in their gardens that I get the urge to kick over when I see them (I've gone grumpy in my old age), but I couldn't resist this little guy, especially as I was looking for something suitable to make for my tutor. She's Swedish and was throwing a traditional Swedish bash to celebrate the end of term before the crimbo holidays. He was perfect and she loved him. He even got to go with her on her trip to Japan the lucky little bugger. Huge thanks to Hazel for the leftover yarn from her little guy.

He's a cutie.
Plastic wrapped magazines drive me nuts. I always secretly hope someone will open the wrapper so I can look through them.
That is rally cute! I'm going to have to find that, I know some people who it would be perfect for!
I hate those plastic wrapped magazines too.
Oh how cute! That's a gnome I can appreciate.
Plastic wrapped magazines - grrrr!!! I won't buy them on principle, except when there's a free gift I want. I've decided when they're plastic wrapped it's because the patterns are naff and they don't want us to know.
Oh Gnome! Yours won't start breeding like Woollywarbler's did a couple of Chrismasses ago I hope.
The gnome is so charming! Glad it was well-received. :0)
Very cute! I like those garden gnomes because they're ugly. Those and the plastic pink flamingos.
He's a cutie (and I always want to rip the plastic off mags!!) He's a cutie!
You don't like garden gnomes? I have a thing for them since my nan got me one when I was little and it only got broken a couple of years back. Yours is great - hope he enjoyed his trip!
He is great! It is such a gamble buying the plastic wrapped stuff isn't it.
Not much of a gnome fan either, but this little guy is so cute! I like how you can't see any face between the hat and beard. He looks like he'd be a klutz!
How could he fail to brighten up anyone's day.
Oh, that little gnome is adorable!
I'd write a nasty letter to Simply Knitting. That kind of misleading cover is really tacky.
Nice gnome!
I open those plastic wrappers in the shop if I think no-ones looking!!!
What a cutie :-) You always knit such fun stuff.
He's cute! A perfect gift for your tutor.
I'm with Fiona in not buying plastic-wrapped mags. That's really lame of them.
On the bright side though, that gnome is brilliant! =)
Rain - I've tagged you! (nothing too complicated, honest)
You've been given a "You Make my Day" Award. Check out my blog for details.
Your Swedish Yuletide Gnome turned out so cute and I'm so glad that your tutor liked him!
Hey, you're back! So am I! I had a big move south, too.
That is one shiny gnome beard. He's really cute. I'm diggin' the red boots.
Plastic wrapped magazines remind me of the racier type of porn mag. I never buy them for that reason alone. You never know what lurks behind the pages of an innocent plastic wrapped knitting magazine.
Oh he's so cute!!!
